After the passing of both Mr. and Mrs. Oliver, their daughter, Marianne Williams, became the owner of the property. As Mansfield experienced rapid growth, the Williams Family desired to protect their father's cherished land from urbanization. With a vision to create a haven where nature's magnificence could be preserved and cherished, they approached the City of Mansfield. In 2004, their dream became a reality as the city purchased the property, spanning a generous 80 acres, to establish what is now known as Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park.

In 2010, a remarkable collaboration between the Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation and the City Council set the stage for the park's master plan. The project unfolded in three phases, with Phase I encompassing the creation of breathtaking outdoor elements that captivate the senses. The park's vision extends beyond the present, with plans for an indoor Nature Center and Learning Lab on the horizon. Oliver Nature Park proudly stands as Mansfield's sole nature park, offering a haven where students and adults alike can immerse themselves in unique classes and engaging activities that foster a deep appreciation for the natural world.

In 2014, Oliver Nature Park opened its welcoming gates to the public, quickly becoming a beloved destination for residents and visitors alike. As the park evolved, Mansfield celebrated the completion of Phase 2B of the Walnut Creek Linear Trail in 2020, an impressive addition that spans 1.35 miles, connecting the rear loop of the park to the 360-Tollway. This paved trail weaves through the heart of the Philip Thompson Soccer Complex, effortlessly blending outdoor recreational opportunities with the captivating allure of nature.

Oliver, born in Louisiana in 1898, found his heart drawn to North Texas after serving in World War I. Enchanted by a Mansfield girl, he and his wife chose a picturesque 200-acre plot along Walnut Creek as their sanctuary to raise a growing family. Over the years, as the family sold portions of the property, around 60 acres on the north side of Walnut Creek remained, forming their cherished retirement homestead.
