Lifestyle Impact of Owning vs. Renting a Home

The other factor to consider when thinking about buying vs. renting is the lifestyle factor. What is your general preference? Do you enjoy do-it-yourself house projects? Do you enjoy gardening and landscaping? Do you prefer a lavish lifestyle? Do you care much about how your house looks (i.e. paint color, flooring type, etc.)? Do you prefer to move often (or, does your job move you often)? All of these questions are important to consider.
If you enjoy being a do-it-yourselfer, owning might be for you. On the other hand, if you don't care to do home repairs yourself, renting might be better for you. If you like picking out paint colors or have a strong aesthetic preference about other aspects of a home, you might prefer to own. If you are frequently away from, renting might be your best bet. Also, renting might be preferable if you tend to worry about unknowns.
In short, there is no single one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to owning vs. renting. Both can be beneficial in different circumstances.
